A UNION'S TROUBLES.
BOGUS MEMBERS. Press Association, WELLINGTON.' April 22. The old Waterside Workers' Union, which went on strike, has applied for registration under the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act on the ground that its members cannot conveniently belong to the" Wharf Labourers' Union. It alleges ±hat the executive works only in the of 450 members as against 1300 who joined after the strike. It holds meetings for its own factions only, and has refused to give effect to resolutions passed at legally constituted meetings of the union.
In setting forth the reasons why an additional union should not be registered, the executive of the new union denies sectional favouritism and points out that the meetings at which the resolutions were passed were illegal, as they were for genuine members only, whereas a number of men obtained admittance by means of membership books, obtained by means of bogus clearances from other unions and were intended to defraud the executive out of the 5/- entrance fees; and, further, that the books were pushed under the door to non-members outside.
