CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS. CANTERBURY'S CLEAN SWEEP. The Lawn Tennis Championships in connection "with the New Zealand University Tournament were concluded to-day. Results are as follow: MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES. Semi-final. J. T. Laurenson (C.C.) beat E. B. Andreae (0.U.), 2-6 6-1 6-4. Final. J. L. Laurenson (C.C.) beat G. Gotz (C.C.), 4-6 6-3 6-3. This was a splendid game, the standard of play being very high indeed. Gotz had just finished playing in the Combined Doubles, and was far from fresh. Laurenson took the first three games, two of them to love, and there were prophesies of a walk over, but it was far from that. Gotz took the next three. The seventh went to Laurenson, the last three to Gotz. Laurenson got the first three games of the second set, and the fourth went to Gotz. Laurenson won the fifth, and Gotz the sixth and seventh. The last two games went to Laurenson .to love, and he won the set, 6-3. In the third set Laurenson won the first game, and Gotz the second. The next two went to Laurenson, and the fifth to Gotz. Laurenson then established a big lead, and Gotz got only

one more game. The aces in the various sets went as follow First, Laurenson 25, Gotz 34.; second, Laurenson 80; Gotz 21; third, Laurenson 32, Gotz 19; total, Laurenson 95, Gotz 74. MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP DOUBLES. Semi-finals. * G. Gotz and J. T. Laurenson (C.C.) beat W. D. Hart and T. Paterson (0.U.), 6-4 6-4. G. Parsonson and R. Abernethy (C.C.) beat E. B. Andreae and J. A. Jenkins (0.U.), 6-2 6-0. LADIES' CHAMPIONSHIP DOUBLES. Second Round. Misses Tutton and Wright (C.C.) beat Misses Lawry and Sievwright (Y.C.), 9-7. Semi-final. Misses Bain and Webb (C.C.) beat Misses Tompkins and Dickinson (A.U.C.), 9-2. Misses Sutton and Wright (C.C.) beat Misses Hare and Cook (V.C.), 9-4. Pinal. Misses Tutton and Wright (C.C.) beat Misses Bain and Webb (C.C.), 9-3. Although Misses. Tutton and Wright had already played a game earlier in the day arid were not so fresh as their opponents, they had an easy win. They took the first seven games to love, and then their opponents got three to their one. making the score 8-3. They took the next game, and won the match. COMBINED DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIP. Semi-finals. Miss Welch and E. B. Andreae (0.U.) beat Miss Tompkins and D. K. Duthie (A.U.C.), 6-2 1-6 6-2. Miss Tutton and G. Gotz (C.C.) beat Miss Hart and W. D. Hart'(O.U.), 6-3 6-2. Final. Miss Sutton and Gotz (C.C.), beat Miss Welch, and E.'B. Andreae (0.U.), 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. The match was keenly contested, and was closer than the final scores. seem to indicate. The winners scored 77 aces to their opponent's 73. Canterbury won the first set with seeming ease, scoring 25 aces to Otago's 20. They took the first two games of the second set, and the next two went to Otago, the fourth being a love set. Canterbury got the fifth, and then the southerners ran clean away from them, winning four games with ease. Two were love games, and in all Otago scored 24 aces to Canterbury's score. The score in aces for the set was Otago 31, Canterbury 20. CaiVerbury took the first three games of the third set, and Otago the fourth. Canterbury had an easy win in the fifth, and in the sixth Otago wrested a victory after a strenuous and prolonged contest. The last two games were Canterbury's. The score in aces for the third set was: Canterbury 32, Otago 21. "Both pairs played a really good game, and the match was a most enjoyable and exciting one to watch. Both .Gotz and Andreae were in excellent form, and their partners were but little behind them in skill. LADIES' CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES. Semi-finals.
