HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 9. The following is the High Commissioner's maiiket report. (Note. —Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot): — Mutton.—There is a dull sale for all qualities on account of low prices. Chilled beef prices have declined as a result of heavy arrivals. Canterbury, 4fd per lb for lightweights, heavyweights 4d, North Island 4sd fo.r lightweights. Lamb.—The demand is chiefly for lightweight, and there is a dull sale for heavy carcases. Canterbury two's 6£d, heavyweights sfd. Other than Canterbury, 6d for lightweight. Beef. I —The market is very 3ull. New Zealand hinds 4§d, fores 3jj-d, chilled hinds 4gd, fores 3Jd. Butter.—The market is quiet. Danish, per, cwt, 118/- to 120/-; New Zealand, 104/- to 106/-; exceptionally choice, 108/-. The unsalted supply is limited at 114/- to 116/-; Australian 102/- to 106/-; Argentine, 102/- to 104/-; Siberian, 100/- to 104/-. Cheese.—-The market is quiet but steady. Prices for Canadian are nominal. Canadian, white 68/- to 70/-, coloured 69/- to 71/-; New Zealand, white 61/- to 62/-, coloured 64/- to 64/6; Australian, 60/- to 64/-. Hemp. —The- market is quiet but steady. New Zealand, good fair, per ton, £25 15/-, fair £23. The stock of New Zealand hemp on hand at the end of March was 12,000 tons. Manila, fair current, £26 per ton; the nominal quotation for all positions. The output from Manila for the week was 21,000 bales.

Tow. —The stock on hand at the end of March was 558 tons. Cocksfoot. —There is a better demand for cocksfoot seed.

Kauri Gum. —The market is firm, but the demand is only moderate. Dark brown, selected, re-scraped, £6 to £7; dark brown, £3 4/-; scraped, £4 5/- to £4 15/-; dark brown chips, drossy, £2 to £2 10/-; re-scraped pale amber, £ll 10/to £l4 15/-; scraped pale, £8 10/- to £9 10/-; diggers' chips, good, £3 5/- to £3 15/-. The stock on hand at the end of March was 563 tons.
