AUCKLAND, April 13.
A man narrred Samuel M 'Frederick, who had worked at Manunui as a platelayer, was killed at t Mangarere on Sunday, and two other men, named Joseph Benson, and "Frank Porter, were seriously injured by the capsize of a motor-car, caused, presumably, by the bursting of a tyre. The car was thrown completely over, and righted itself again. ; N Two lady passengers escaped injury. Benson had- a'fractured thigh and injuries to head, and Porter is suffering from a broken rib and a broken collarbone. M'Frederick is a native of Londonderry, aged 38, and was recently in the police force in. South Africa.
EAIKOURA v. SYDENHAM.
KAIKOURA, April 11.
In a single innings match to-day Kaikoura defeated Sydenham by one run. The visitors, who played only nine men, batted first, and scored 150 (Conradie 49, O'Malley 35, Ayling 22, Forrester 20). Kaikoura replied with 151 (Bruce 54, Dr Thomson 24, Vincent 17, M'Swiggan 17).
A return match will be played on Monday.
UNIVERSITY MATCH
The North Island team in the University cricket match, which will start at Hagley Park at 9.45 a.m. to-rnorrow, will be:—Airey, Caradus, Gray, Thomas, Stewart, Jacobsen (Auckland), Atmore, Broad, Caddick, Dempsey, and Wynward (Victoria College). VETERANS AT PLAY. The Veterans team, accompanied by some of their lady friends, paid a visit to Burnham Industrial School on Thursday, and were most cordially entertained by Mr and Mrs Archey and staff. They were shown over tins buildings and grounds, and after partaking of refreshments a cricket match was played, the visitors winning. The scores were:—Veterans 181) (Cook <",5, Lawrence 35, Page; 30 retired, Baric,and 18, Watson 17, Ban-ell 1(5, .iudnon J5, Brittain 14, M'Nae 10 retired), Burn ham 120 (Cumming 20, Bissel.t L's, Lewis 21, Munroe 14, Witney 10). A team from Sydenham defeated Sunnyside on Good Friday by 112 runs. Sydenham made 247 (Ilincksman 135, Patrick 57). Sunnyside replied with 135 (Cusvvorth 70, Curtis 24, l)r Lec 13).
