A RECORD ASCENT.

BRILLIANT PARACHUTE DISPLAY.

Private advice has been received in Christchurch that Mr Albert Eastwood, the well-known, aeronaut, who recently spent some weeks, in this city, made a most successful balloon ascent and triple parachute descent in Auckland on Saturday afternoon. Ascending in beautiful weather, Mr Eastwood speedily reached the tremendous height of 9750 ft, and then cut loose, dropping .like a stone, for several hundred feet, until his first parachute opened and checked his descent. Finally, amidst the enthusiastic applause of a very large crowd,; he descended to earth, landing quite gently. It is claimed that the .height at which Mr Eastwood cut loose from his balloon is a world's record for parachuting. Even if this is not so,,thereat is a remarkable one, and one of which the intrepid young aviator may justly feel proud.. t Mr, 32ast,wood has been ' a;ssoeiates with'Mr Vincent Beeby in ballooning ■for several years, and has given successful exhibitions in many, of the world.
