Major Campbell, of England, is staying at Warner's Hotel. Mr Joseph Ames, of Wellington, is staying at the Clarendon. Mr J. P. Murphy, of Timaru, is at present in Christchurch. Mr J. D. Stewart left for Wellington by the Wahine on Saturday. Mr J. Hemus, of Wellington, arrived in Christchurch yesterday. Mr J. Goring Johnston was a passenger from Wellington on Sunday. Messrs John Sheridan, W. *H. Sharplin, and T. Adams are at Warner's. Mr G. Woods and Mr B. Hayes arrived in Christchurch on Sunday. Detective-Sergeant Cassells, of Wellington, is at present in Christchurch.
The Rev. Father Eccleston was a passenger from Wellington by the Maori yesterday. Mr G. L. Rutherford, of Connemara, and Mr David Friedlander are staying at Warner's Hotel.
Messrs A. A. Dempster, of. Ashburton, and Norman Potts, of Opotiki, are at the United Service.
• Mr Hartgill and Mr J. B. Gaisford, of Dannevirke, are at Coker's Hotel* Mr Gaisford returns north to-night.-. Major Pinwell and Captains CrichlySalmondson and Wheeler arrived back from Nelson yesterday by the Maori. Mr R. Hannah, of Lower Riccarton; has consented to become a candidate for the Riccarton Borough Council. Messrs J. B. Merrett, G. Willis, and R. W. Hawke left by the Wahine to attend the Poultry Conference at Wellington this week. . Mr O. W. Olsen, of Wellington, Mr Nicholson, of Dunedin, and Messrs Frank" Jones and J. "M. Bullied are staying at the Clarendon.
: A presentation was made to Mr C. R. N. Mackie at the meeting of the Children's Peace Society on Saturday, on the occasion of his approaching marriage.
Mr L. A. Graham, for forty years in the service of Messrs J. W. Smith and Co., of Lyttelton, was presented with a Gladstone bag last week, On the occasion of his leaving that firm.
Archdeacon Ensor, who has been in bad health for some time past, has been compelled to relinquish his charge of the Phillipstown .parish for some months. He will probably spend the winter in the north.
Mr Lyon Moore, engineer to the New Brighton Borough' Council, was presented with a salad bowl„£tnd cruet by the employees of the Council, last week, on the occasion of his marriage. Mr M. Ryan made the presentation. Mr A. K. Rutherford, jun., of Brookdale, Mr Arthur Elworthy, of Timaru, and Mr H. Friedlander, of Ashburton, are staying at the United Service. Other guests at. the same hotel are Mr M. Aspinal (Temuka), Frank Townend (Swannanoa), and T.J.Kerr (Wellington) .
The personnel of the two Courts of Appeal constituted under the Judicature Amendment Act of last session is gazetted. His Honour the Chief Justice and their Honours Mr Justice Denniston and Mr Justice Edwards will sit on both Divisions, with Mr Justice Sim and Mr Justice Hosking on the First Division and Mr Justice Cooper and Mr Justice Stringer on the Second Division.
