SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL.

WOODS SCORES A CENTURY. With two wickets down for 113 runs, and F. Woods (43), and J. Taylor (26) the not out men, the Sydenham team resumed -its first innings, at Lancaster Park this afternoon, in the final match for the senior championship' of the Canterbury Cricket-Association against the Riccarton eleven, which had scored 141 runs in its first effort. Woods and Taylor batted brightly, and"took the score along to 170, when Taylor was dismissed lbw to Bain. The pair had put; on 114 runs for the third wicket. Patrick went out to have a merry smack at the bowling, apparently, and he hit out too soon, for, after getting a two and a single, he was caught at wide mid-off by E. R. Caygill, off Boulton's bowling. Joined by Paterson, Woods batted soundly and chahcelessly until he had passed the century by means of good strokes on both sides of the wicket. Presently he mishit at an off-ball-from Whitta and played it on to his stumps. Five wicket were now down for 213 runs. Watson started well) but he soon lost Paterson, who jumped out to smite at Whitta's bowling, and was bowled by a ball which turned, in from the off. Fraser helped Watson to put on 30 runs before he lifted a ball from Whitta, straight-driven; into the hands of Taylor, fielding in the deep fielc} as a substitute. A few minutes later J. Taylor, this time fielding at cover, caught Watson out, off Boulton, and eight wickets were down for 254 runs. O 'Malley went a few runs later, bowled by Whitta,/but H. M 'Clelland and G. C. Wilson put on 44 runs for the last wicket, Wilson then being out lbw to A. H. Guiney. M'Clelland scored his 33 not put by forceful strokes, especially on the off. Riccarton's second innings was opened by Whitta and Caygill. Wilson'scowling did not trouble the batsmen, and although Watson kept them a little quieter runs came steadily. Presently both men were scoring 5 freely despite frequent /changes in the fowling. Sydenham greatly missed Bennett in the attack. At last, with the score at 114, Whitta bowled by Watson. His score of 73 was made by good hitting — not quite chanceless, but well made — with particularly good leg strokes. Norman was soon hitting well, but Caygiil v was bowled by Wilson almost on the call of time. He had just reached the half-century by means of steady, careful batting.
