Ellis hagJjeen sentenced to death for shooting twbnien whO< attempted to apprehend him for bag-snatching in the Domain. The jury recommended: him-to mercy on account of his youth.' [On February 11 a shooting affray'occurred in the Domain at Sydney, A footpad snatched a lady's • bag,, and when two men attempted to apprehend him he shot one of them in the head and the other in the stomach. The man who was shot in the stomach displayed considerable pluck, and, although rather badly wounded, succeeded in bringing his assailant to the ground and holding him until assistance arrived. The footpad, whose name was Ellis, was charged with robbery and attempted murder, and was remanded owing to the serious condition of one of his victims.]
