THE NEW SCALE. Press AMtdatiem. WELLINGTON, March 17. Al new scale of police pay has been issued by the Hon. A. L. Herdman, "Minister of Justice, who says that it has been found that the high rates of pay earned in outside occupations make It difficult to obtain* the services of "first-class men for the police force. "The force is now a good one, but it can be improved. The hew conditions of •employment should tempt good men to ■ join, aird it is with the hope that young New Zealanders, who are not afraid of steady, hard work, and who are prepared to submit themselves to strict discipline, will offer their services now that the scale of pay has been improved and > the state is prepared to give good pay, for good'service. , For superintendents at Auckland and the new scale per y«ar is t£&6Q to £520, with increments of £10; '.superintendents at Christchurch and. Dunedin £460 to £490 with increments •of £lO every two years; inspectors £3BO to £440 with £10; per. annum; sub-inspec-tors £330 to £360 with £lO every two years; senior sergeants 14/6 to 16/with increments of 6d per day every two years; sergeants, 12/- to 13/6, with day every two years; constables ■under three years' service, 9/-; thre'e -Ijo six years * service 9/6,. six to nine gears' service] 10/-, nine to 14 years' service 10/6, 14 to 20 years' service 11/-; chief detectives 16/6.t0 17/6, with increment of 6d every two years; detect! ve-sergeants 15/- to 16/-, with 6d every two years; detectives 11/6 to 14/6, with 1/- per day every three years; probationary constables, 7/-.
