The defeated Conservative candidate for North-West Durham is not contesting the seat again. .He states that the expenses of the three candidates amounted to over 5/- per'vote, which is absolutely prohibitive to candidates not in good circumstances. [Mr J. O. Hardieker was the Unionist candidate at the recent byelection for North West Durham, and he polled 5564 votes as against .7241 recorded for Mr Williams, ITie successful Liberal candidate. Mr, Stuart, the Labour candidate; secured 5025 votes.]
