A fierce gale swept over the Kuban j district for ten hours on Friday night. A waterspout devastated six villages, j from Esir to Kertoh Strait. One hundred and seventy-six navvies on the Kuban railway were sleeping in their huts, and. they fled before the. flood and took refuge in carriages which the flood swept away. When the flood subsided terrible scenes were witnessed. Carriages and wrecked huts were piled high, with corpses strewn on top. There were only forty-eight survivors who were miraculously saved on the highest heap. One township, consisting of workmen's dwellings, was overwhelmed. Out of a thousand residents it feared that only eight were saved. Many also perished at Temrjuk. 1
