LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.

THE ToWN HALL SITS. Vi To the Editor-of TEE SUN. - * ,• Sir, —I am- • very much disappointed that the Provincial ' Council Chambers site is not being * * supported morQ strongly, by your readers.' To. my mind it is THE site for - a Town Hall, an 4 none of the .others can compare with it. The council want a .cheap site, and I think if sufficient pressure were brought to bear on the Government it could b* got for nothing.—l am, etc.,- ; . OLD CANTERBURY. • To the Editor of TEE SON. ■--■•' Sir, —Referring to the Town Ha 9 Poll, I respectfully" submit herewith my vote. My reason for voting Latimer Square is this: In the near future the vicinity of Cathedral Square will be so "congested with traffic that a move/ of traffic will eventuate. The Bank, of New Zealand corner is positively langerous now —what will it be in a ■ few years, say, when w6 have railway communication to West Coast and an increase of 50,000 ' inhabitants which is certain to'occur?' To cause the city to progress. Jrrom : now is, what ia wanted. I woiild suggest erecting a Town Hall in Latimer Square, also a tram shelter shed, and conveying all tram traffic east of Latimer Square to the Square. Tram traffic west of Cathedral Square should go to Cranmer Square. This would split up the "traffic and might divide-those horrid Imitators? meetings " in*' Cathedral Square. —1 am, etc, VOTER IN HASTE. MB RTJSSELL'S PLEDGES. To the Editor of TEE- SOT. ',..■' *■:>^»vv. Sir,—There are one or two errors in Mr M'Combs's letter on the majority question which, in justice to.Mr Rtfssell, I wish to correct. ~Mr Russell did not approach me asking me to withdraw my opposition to his inclusion in the Cabinet. Knowing that Mr Russell' was likely to be included in the Mackenzie Cabinet 1 approached to ascertain what his position would be in reference to the three-fifths handicap. Mr Russell stated that he was pledged to the three-fifths, but when the, time-of that pledge was. expired he would be prepared to support 45-55 on the National Prohibition issue. I did not go with Mr George Laurenson to Mr Russell's room. As a matter of fact,Mr Russell had" no room at that time. I went across with Mr Laurenson to the Ministerial room in the old Govern- , ment Buildings to congratulate the new Ministers on their accession to office, and it was then that I had the second conversation alluded to in my letter. I have no reason to believe that whjen the time comes Mr Russell will fail to fulfil his pledge. —I am, etc., LEONARD M. ISITT. March 16.
