STOCK SALES.

LEESTON.

i There was an exceptionally large 'yarding of sheep at yesterday's market at Leeston, the largest seen at Leeston for a long timei The total entry was about 3000, pf whiqh well over 2000 were ewes, and the balance lambs. On the whole the sheep sale was a very satisfactory one, and very few lots failed to find new owners. The prices were exceptionally good for this season of the year, especially for store ewes and lambs. Pat ewes improved slightly in values, and the few fat lambs offered /were quickly bought up at advanee'd rates. Store lambs met with a fairly keen enquiry from graziers, and ready sales Tesulted. The pig pens contained 88 fats and 210 stores. The prices for fats were still encouraging to settlers, and it was evident from the demand and the prices ruling for stores that farmers have a fairly good supply of feed on hand. Business was not particularly, brisk in ,cattle. Out of an entry of 48 head, 31 dairy cattle were passed. Fat cattle were bought up to fill local requirements at satisfactory rates. The range of values was as follows:—Fat ewes, best quality, 16/6 to 23/-; others from 13/6; fat lambs, 15/6 to 16/9; forward stores, 13/10; stores, 7/8 to 11/8; bacon pigs, 54/- to 75/-; choppers, to 85/-; large stores, 25/- to 50/6; small from 13/-; fat cows, £5 5/to £7; springers, £7 to £9 10/-; eighteen-month-old heifers, £4 17/-; six-month-old calves, 47/-. The New Zealand Farmers' Co-opera-tive Association held their annual horse fair at Leestoafc*m Thursday, when there was an of about'7s. horses, 55 broken jya4 20 unbroken. .'The demand for aircMsses qr airim»l&"was not very good, and in mans; cases there was a big differejacte /between vendors' and buyers' Ideas of values, with the result that only a small percentage of sales was effected. Some of the sales were: — Draught (broke«> mares, £3B, £25, £2l, £l6 10/-, down to £10; draught geldings, £3B, £39, £32/iO/-,, £22 10/-, £2O, and £l9; a pair of grey harness horses, £3O; hacks, £8 to £lO 15/-.
