deeorated booths ,formed an ,at- % . tractive background for the hosts of / pretty and ' dainty assistants who aningled \yith the crowd, and drove a , thriving trade in sweets, etc. The- gardens were thronged with . - .taerry groups. The dresses and hats were very dainty, and one noticed that all ,-«rar representative people were present.
The tea tents were # packed to their ut* '- ' most capacity. The Mayor and .Lady
Mayoress of your city (Mr and- Mrs Holland) had tea in the tent presided '« «ver by our Lady Mayoress—Miss
Downie Stewart. Some of the ladies as- > sisting Miss Stewart Were: —-Mrs Stronach> Mrs Harrison Jones, Mrs Gallaway, 3frs Woodhouse, Mrs Wilkinson, Miss Tise, Miss Webster, Mrs Vivian. Mrs L Oldham was at the head, of the Decora- « -lion Committee, and with her were Mrs Eardley Reynolds, Mrs Leslie Wilson, Mrs Hudson, Misses Mitchell, and
Maeassey. The Liedertafel Society's reception to Madame Dolores on Monday evening resolved itself into a delightfully in-
formal affair. The society received wtiieir distinguished guest at the Dresden rooms, and afterwards the party adjourned to the banquet hall of the Savoy. The floral decorations were carried out in purple; and a fire glowed ■brightly in a wide fireplace. Madame ■was charmed with the effect. Among the few ladies present were Mrs D. E Tfifedmin and Mrs -Hudson. A small luncheon was given in honour of Sari Grey and Countess Grey by the Honourable James Allen and Mrs Allen. and Mrs Downie Stewarts The table Tras charmingly decorated with pink
sweet peas. To-morrow (Thursday) Mr and Miss Downie Stewart ' (our own popular Mayor and lady Mayoress) will entertain Mr and Mrs Holland (the Mayor and lady Mayoress of your city) at luncheon. HONORIA.
