TO FLY TO-MORROW.

AT ADDINGTJN. Mr J. W. H. Scotland (aviator) is a son of the late Hon. Mr Scotland, M.L.C., and, with the exception of Mr Hammond, he ia the only New Zealander holding a pilot's certificate in flying. The machine used during the exhibitions given at the various towns is a Caudron biplane, carrying a 45 horse-power engine, and is capable of attaining a speed of 75 miles an hour. The propeller of French rosewood has a capacity of 1400 revolutions per minute. The' engine j weighs about 1451b, and; the machine complete about 6ewt. Referring to Mr Scotland's recent flight from Invercargill to Gore, a contemporary says: '' When it was first announced that an exhibition of flying was to be given at Gore,' many were inclined to be sceptical, it being freely stated that, as has happened on similar occasions, a weary wait of perhaps a couple of hours would be experienced, and then tine exasperating announcement made that owing to some little technicality not understandable the average mortal the actual flight would? have to be abandoned. When on Friday evening, however, a whirring sound from the region >of the clouds followed by a huge bird-like' form which quickly materialised into an airship, betokened the approach of Mr Scotland on his famous Caudron biplane, and when it was later ascertained that the flight had been accomplished from Invercargill in about 30min., all doubts., as regards the genuineness of Saturday's demonstration were quiekly dispelled. Owing to the biplane arriving at Gore just at the dusk, a clear view of the machine could not be obtained, but this fact only served to whet the appetite of the public for the morrow's display.'' The Christehurch flight is announced to take place to-morrow at the Show grounds at 3.30. The gates open at 2 o 'clock ■ and demonstrations of the machine will be given till the big-event takes place. ,
