AMERICAN ATHLETES.
RECORDS BROKEN.
Press Association. MASTEBTON, March 5. The American athletes appeared here to-day, and competed at the Wairarapa Amateur Athletic Club's meeting. The attendance was large, the track was in perfect order, and the weather conditions were ideal.
In the 440 yds, Parker (America) broke the Australasian record, his time being 49 l-ssec. The American made short work of the opposition, winning easily, by 10 yards. A feature of the meeting was Power 's (America) mile run, the distance being covered in 4min 18 2-ssec, a fresh Australasian record..
Both Packer and Power had a great reception on returning to the pavilion. Templeton was too heavily handicapped, but showed to great advantage in both the 120 yds hurdles and the pole vaulting. In the former he .was just beaten though giving away a big start. In the pole vault he' cleared lift lin, and just failed to beat his own record of lift 6in.
Caughey (America), in putting the shot contest, covered 44ft 94in, also an Australasian record.
Special gold medals were, presented to the four visiting Americans, in recognition of their sterling performances. The party left by the evening train for Palmerston North, en route to Hamilton, for their final meeting.
