PERSONAL.

• Mr G. J. King, of Sydney, is at present on a vi&ftt to Christchurch. -.."'Mr'-W. O. Sey, of Bradford, is at present visiting Christchurch. Mr J. A. Latimer, of Sydney, is at present visiting Christchurch. Mr John Taylor, of Invercargill, arrived at Warner's yesterday from the south, Miv C. Clabborn, of Wellington, arrived from the north yesterday, and is staying at Warner's Hotel.

Messrs B. J. and R. N. Bell, of Blenpresent staying at Warner's Hotel, arrived in Christchurch yesterday.

Visitors to Christchurch staying at the United Service Hotel, include Captain Keid, of Wellington, and Mr L. Butt; of Botorua. They arrived by yesterday's boat from the north.

Included among the guests at„Coker 's Hotel are Mr H. L. Benson, of Melbourne, Mr Geo. A.. Prevost,. of Adelaide, and Mr W. Parkin, of Akaroa.

Mr James Matkias, of Melbourne, is at present visiting Christchurch. He arrived on Sunday from the north, and is staying at the Clarendon.

The Hon. F. M. B. Fisher, Minister of Customs and Marine, who has been on a visit to Christchurch, left by the first express this, morning for Dunedin. He will' probably' return to Christchurch at the beginning of next week.

• TheJEfcfc. Hon. Sir Joseph War a;' Bart., who was present at the races on Saturday, went south this morning by the first express. He is proceeding right through to lutfercargill, and he will be in Southland" for soiae time. He will probably deliver; a" political address at Wi'hton at an early date. At the practice meeting of the Christchurch Liedertafel held last Friday the President Made feeling reference to the death of the late Mr W. A. Day, who was a life member of tlie Society. A vote of condolence was passed, aljrmembers; .standing, after which Sullivan's ■''Long Day Closes'' was siing. _ Mr Davidson, who for the past year has been manager of the Christchurch branch of Messrs Jas. Niven & Co., Ltd*., has been transferred to the firm's head office in Wellington. On behalf of the staff, Mr J. S. Pearson, in presenting Mr Davidson with a;' handsoni.* case of pipes, spoke in felicitoTis terms of the ha#py relations which had existed between him and the staff, and also expressed theirKregr&t /-at Mr Davidson's removal.
