LABOUR UNREST IN AUSTRALIA. EMPLOYERS' FIRM STAND. By Cable. — Press Association. — Copyright. (Received February 9, 9.50 a.m.) MELBOURNE, February 9. It is anticipated that a compulsory conference to deal with the wharfmen 's trouble will be summoned to-day. The shipowners are credited with a desire to fight the Labour Federation on the lines of the late New Zealand strike, and they declare that a check must be put on the men's- exorbitant juemands, even though it may mean a great loss of money. The employers are determined to grant no increases excepting through the Arbitration Courts THE BUTCHERS' TROUBLE. (Received February 9, 9.20 a.m.) SYDNEY,. February 9. No settlement has been reached in the butchers' trouble. - It is expected that the shopmen will strike to-day, leaving the city.largely without meat.
