THE ARROW.
21st September. At the Twelve-mile nearly all the races, comprising some only recently completed, are in lull work andadditional races are still being constructed, bringing water over most difficult ground and from remote sources. A general feeling of confidence prevails as to the ultimate success of these tedious and expensive undertakings. The track to the Twelve-mile, although but a short time since completed, does not seem to find much favor in the eyes of travellers thereon. The various cuttings are described as being but a succession of bogs and quagmires ; and now, owing to the recent rains, almost impassable. The construction of a few culverts is urgently needed if this track is to be of any real use to the inhabitants of the district. Up the Arrow the few parties holding claims are all actively at work, the pumps, wheels &c, damaged by the last flood having jeen mostly put in good working orler again. At the Cardrona the miners are said to be steadily plodding along, and the population increasing, there now being fully 250 inhabitants on the creek, all of whom are doing moderately well. Several Cardrona miners have returned from the Nelson rush, and are quietly settling down in their old haunts again. At the head of the creek, and towards the Moonlight, good gold is still being obtained. At the Kawarau bank, near the Five-mile Creek, several terrace claims have been lately occupied, and the prospectors are now seeking to obtain a sufficient supply of water for sluicing. The ground is known to be rich, and if water is brought thereon, will aitbrd permanent work for several strong parties. Amongst the employees on the road works in that neighborhood quite a mania is said to exist for prospecting during their spare hours, all being impressed with the idea that the are on the eve of making an important discovery. The Committee appointed to carry out the object of the Arrow Prospecting Association have met with very fair success in arranging preliminary matters.
