STURDY LITTLE. PONIES.
LONDON, March 10 A. Times correspondent -with tlie Russians says that' the. success of the- artillery wrts largely due to the rapidity of movement of the- shaggy Siberian ponies. He observed many teams attached to caissons, standing during snowstorms, with the' .snow inches deep underfoot. Men and- ponies, were fast asleeg though ,tho guns were belching out "flames and steel less' than 'i\ mik) aw,ayl . . ' After "a hard '■' day it was a* common . occurrence *to see 'the "artillery driver babying his little ponies, n'hTiing' th^m down , stroking ' tiieir hoses, '; and feeding them" with some delicacy or another. V ( European horse's^' says the correspond:ent, were used earlier m the war, but | the Siberian ponies were quickly substit uted on account of their hardness and strength. . ■. •; •, ,-. " . .
