A tremendous amount of interest was c evinced m the final polling for the elect tion of "Queen of the Carnival" m cony nection with the Mardi Gr&s Carnival, J, which the Napier Thirty Thousand Club lt is holding on Boxing Day and the foln lowing day. Further candidates have Ir been nominated for the position of Queen, and when the last lap started Last night, about thirty thousand votes ; s had been recorded. An immense crowd d ossomblod on tho Marino Parade to wita ness the polling of the final results, and j c the soene rivalled a Parliamentary elecd tion. Votes poured m steadily, and m the last minute before the poll closed at 10 o'clock, votes representing nearly 8, £100 were handed m. A great bid was w made by the firefighters for supremacy, a-nd their candidate jumped from about three thousand below the leader to a _| commanding position, establishing a \ strong lead. Mrs Rosewarne, however, came with a final spurt, and regained her position. The final figures were as follows :^— . Mrs Rosewarne 23,864 Miss E. Robinson ("Fire Fighters") 17,566 J Total votes recorded 62,580
