♦ (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this 'day. Superintendent Mitchell, who five weeks ago Mas called to Wellington and was superseded m charge of the police here by Superintendent iyiely, of Christchurch, returned to Auckland four weeks ago. It is understood that ho is still drawing the full salary to which ho is entitled as superintendent, but ia doing no work. A requisition is being made to the Minister of Justice repre* senting that an undue stigma, was attached to Superintendent Mitchell, and asking that those responsible for his removal from Auckland be asked to substantiate the charges made. Mjr G. A. Buttle war* re-elected chairman of the Stock ■ Exchange. CHRTSTCHURCH, this day. A burglary is reported to Have occurred m the premises of Mr Carey, draper, last night. An entry was effected by a back window. A small sum of money was stolen. The police believe that an amateur at the work has been the culprit.
