" NO CONTESTS'

PROFESSIONAL BOXING BOUT. APPEAL AGAINST GISBORNE DECISION. (Special to Herald.) CHRfeTCHURCH, this day. At a meeting of the New Zealand Boxing Council the Gisborne "Association wrote concerning its recent two,, nights' entertainment, and dealt particularly with the professional bout" between W*. Hannan and P. Cook. The referee had declared the event "no contest," and ■this decision had been endorsed by the committee, which had _ decided * that neither party under tho circumstances waSentitled to any portion of the purse. Correspondence was received from P. Cook, stating that he had heard privately of the action of the committee. The referee, he wrote, had declared "no contest," and had disqualified Hannan, but had made no reference to himself t-aen or at any stage of the event. The assumption was that the i-eferee had not held him resportsibie,y and he appealed against the committee's action, and asked for an inquiry into the case. The Council secretary reported that Cook had called on him with reference to his appeal, and that he had advised Cook to write to the Gisborne Association for an official statement. It was decided to ask the Gisborne Association for fuller particulars.
