General Hertzog, m a bitter speech, accused General Botha of duplicity, misrepresentation of facts, and subverting and abandoning his party. General Botha made a dignified, impassioned and exhaustive reply. Ho declined to put the country to the expense and inconvenience of a general election merely because General Hertzog desired to re-enter office.
