The largest undertaking now m. the hands of the Public Works Department m Otaj/o is the Manorbum irrigation scheme. The excavating is proceeding apace but it will last all the winter, for it is a heavy job, By springtime it is hoped that the Department will bo able to commence the concrcto laying. 1 Canterbury gentleman has made an offer of £500 towards the extinction of the Canterbury A. and P. Association's debt, under certain conditions. There appears a good chance that, with the active co-operation of other committeemen, £4800 will be raised, and the Association placed m the happy position of being debt-free.
