"OFFICIAL" WAR BOOK.
WAR OFFICE TO ISSUE ITS OWN
HISTORY.
The War Office has decided to publish an official history of the war. Dr Robertson NicoU, m the British Weekly, states that the work has been entrusted to Lieutenant-Colonel G. F. R. Henderson. There are to be at least six volumes, and perhaps seven, each* of about 450 pages. The maps will be drawn by Government draughtsmen, and may possibly be printed upon Government stores. The criticism will take the form of tactical and strategical discussion. Faults and feebleness wiU^not be directly imputed, but the /"reader will be given sufficient data from which to draw his own conclusions. There will be chapters devoted to strategical and tactical lessons of the .war, to} organisation, and to ' the question of colonial troops forming part of the Imperial Army. The political history will be fully treated, prominence will be given to the deeds of regiments, and m certain cases of individuals.' The contents will be arranged chronologically, but one volume will be devoted to transport and organisation, hospitals, remounts, etc. The first volume ought to be out next spring. The remainder should appear at intervals of six months, but no definite promise am be made at present, on either of these points.
