The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile ! Agency Company's produce circular of : April 4th reports: ' Butter: Notwithstanding that the m- ; quiry during the past three weeks both ; for Australian and New Zealand has been j fairly good, values mark a further decline i of from 2s to 3s per cwt, finest being worth from 98s to 100s (Australian m a few cases making a little m<*re money), and good to fine from 94s to 96s per cwt. Supplies of Continental, Irish, and the Home make are generally increasing, aDd accordingly any improvement m the present values of colonial can now hardly be looked for. Cheese : We regret to advise that an extremely weak market for all descriptions of cheese has prevailed, with the result that values have further declined. Finest white and colored Canadian have been freely offered at from 42s to 48s per cwt, while New Zealand cannot be quoted at from more than 44s to 46s per cwt. Frozen Meat : The dow trade experienced during the past three weeks has had the effect of causing prices for all classes of mutton materially to recede, but at the close a better feeling is manifest, no doubt owing to the incidence of the Easter holidays. Prime light sheep meet with a ready sale, but there are large supplies of heavies, and these are a drug m the market. To-day's prices are for prime Canterbury from 2s 9d to 2s lid per stone, Dunedin and Southland 2s 8d to 2s lOd (nominal), North Island 2s^6d to 2s Bd, and Aus? tralian 1c lOd to 2s per stone. It is usual at this period of the year to experience a good demand for prime lamb for Easter, and to-day really prime medium weights were m great favor at values which should be satisfactory to shippers. Arrivals during the period tinder review from New Zealand are light, and advices do not show any great . quantities afloat, so that we anticipate a firm market for some time. Prime Canterbury is now worth from 3s 9d to 4a. Duoedin and Southland (none), North Island 3s 2d to, ,3s sd, and Australian 38 to 3s 2d per stone. There .is very little really good New Zealand or Australian beef on the market, and values Bhow a slight decline at for New Zealand" hinds 2s 2dto 2s 4d,- fores 2s, and Australian hinds 2s to 2s 3d, and fores Is lOd to 2s per stone. The River Plate Company have some splendid beef for sale, and this article now tops the market fbr hard beef at for hinds 2s 5d to 2s 6d, and fores 2s Id to 2s 2d per stone ex market.
