WELLINGTON, May 14. The following are rough census results of the several boroughs mentioned for 1906, showing an increase or decrease, as the case may be. compared with the census returns for 1901: — Nelson, population 8192, increase 1182. Wanganui, population 8216, increase 887. Ashburton, population 2563, increase 241. Grpjiown, population 1112, decrease 10. Miltcn, population 1284, increase 43. Whangarei, population 8216, increase 887. Woodville, population 1110. increase 184. Pahiatna, population 1369, increase 160. Carterton, population 1407, iqapase 202. Kaiapoi. population 1804, increSse 9. Dannevirke, population 3434 (males 1801. females 1633). increase 1119. Speaking to a Taihape deputation with regard to the Main Trunk railway, Mr Hall-Jones «aid that he intended to construct light branch lines, irrespecthe of the survey, to expedite the connecting of the railheads.
