la reporting the proceedings of the "Wellington City Council, when the discussion on the proposal to establish a zoo at Newtown Park came on, a Wellington paper said : "Wild hilarity possessed the city councillors last evening when talking over zoo matters. Counci.lor Winder was concerned as to the cost of keeping the animals, and said it already cost about £50 a year to keep the present zoo going — the stray-dog yard, Councillor Cohen, without being consulted, declined the situation as keeper of the lion presented to the city by Captain Taylor (of Bostock and Wombwell's Circus), and suggested that it might be housed with the emu in the Botanical Gardens. Councillor Winder paid, if the worst came to the worst, it could be killed and stuffed!" (Photos by J. N. Taylor, Wellington.)
The promoters and Committee of Management of " Hope." the D.L.F. magazine which has already run through its first edition. * Boy " acted as editor, with Ceres " and " Zealia " as assistant editors and commercial managers. Though published in Invercargill the contributors are distributed, all over the colony. '
