The following is the report of the director, Mr W. Lowrie: — "Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln. " I enclose herewith the balance-sheet for the year for egg-laying competition just closed. You will notice that in ihe balancesheet the cost of feeding spare pullets and returns from sales of eggs from spare pullets •re included. After deducting the proportion of the cost of feeding for spare pullets I find that the average return per bird in the competition is Us lljd per sales of eggs ; cost for feed is 5s ll^d; the profit per bird, therefore, from all fowls in competition is 6s lljd. Receipts— Sales of eggs: 32,094 eggs at Is Id per dozen, £144 17s sd. I In a test held over the same period at the Goverrment Poultry Farm, Burnhaof, the results were : — Brown Leghorn, 1096 eggs ; white Leghorn, 1026; buiff Orpington, 992; black Orpington, 691 ; white Wyandotte, 874 ; golden Wyandotte, 822; Minorca, 798. The birds were not first-class specimens, golden Wyandottes being only 4J to 6 months old, and one died on January 4, since when there were only five in the pen. Birds o!<[ enough were used for breeding till December 1. and only fed blood for tvrc months, when it was eased off to let them through the moult. Only ten pens were shut up for another teat, silver Wyandoites, Andalusians, and Langshans being added.
