HAWKE'S BAY.

A strike on the Gisborne-Karaka railway line occurred on Thursday. A gang of 15 iner>, wlio>-© wages for the month averaged 7s 5d per working day on a co-operative contract, refused to accept the sum. They say that for like work in other places, and with shorter hours, the pay is higher. They complain that they have to remain idle while the engine is being used for other purposes. At the first meeting of the Hawke's Bay Woollen Factoiy Company on Friday a board of directors was elected frtr the ensuing year.
