A MESSAGE FROM MARS.
The Hawtrey Company make their first appearance in this city at the Princess Theatre on Monday, 9th inst., opening with (( that ;emarkably successful comedy-drama, "A Message from Mars." A contemporary, referring to the play, lemarked: "l A Message from Mftrft' ie one oi the most fageiaating plays
ever presented on the stage. The subject- is handled with such skill, quaint originality, alternations of humour and pathos that all tendency to- over-emphjisise the moralising ia judiciously avoided. The situations are cleverly conceived and worked out, the characters are natural, and strong in human interest. The dialogue is bright and crisp, and often highly diverting j the pathos of its more sombre passages' never degenerates into mere bathos. The introduction of a mythological element enhances its attractiveness, and the mechanical ingenuity in lending effect to the scenic setting of the piece also contributes to its success*
