DIX'S GAIETY COMPANY.

A large audience filled the Alhambra Theatro on Saturday evening, no doubt partly m anticipation of t.h& new attractions promised in the shape of Mr Austin Rudd and Herr Winscherrnann's performing bears. Mr Austin Rudel caught on with his audience from, the outset, and had a great reception, having to reappear again and again. His songs are onginal, and ■so is his method of Binging, and when he had fimahe-J with "Come out of that at once?'* and followed with a clever original creation entitled "Gallery and boxes" the audience clamoured irresistibly for more, to which lie responded with further comicalities. Most of: Mr Rudd's songs are his own composition and' copy-righted, and he appears by special arrangement with Mr Harry Eickards. Of the performing bears, it is scarcely true that - they do everything but talk," but certainty they -do a -great many things, and Tony, ''the sacred bear fioni India,'" appears to be a very intelligent beast, but with a predilection for liquor that is positively shocking. The feats of these animals are well worth seeing, and they have been evidently most carefully trained, and have mastered the art of balancing and playing seesaw. Herr Winschermaim also introduces in his troupe a bicycle-riling and otherwise very accomplished monkey that convulsed the audience with its absurdities. Miss Carmen Colernan showed herself to be an unusually clever young mimic in her imitations, which, mc'uded Georgie Devoe in "Hannah Lady" and John Coleman in " I wonder if ever " and '' Scarecrow dance." These were lemarkably like the originals, and earned a well-deserved' leceptiou; this young lady appearing in Part 1 with her sister in a clever acrobatic song and •Jance, " A change in the weather." ■ Sivroni, the eccentric comedian, assisted by Miss Amy, Silvini, was responsible for a very large part of the evening's amusement, and" appears in no danger of losing his popularity with theatregoers. His " Indiarubbei dance " is irresistibly comic, and the burlesque, " The Wide, Wide World," with Amy Silvini, scarcely less so. Mr Wallace King's fine tenor vo-ce was heard to advantage in " Fiona," and in response to a vociferous encore he gave " The Maid of Dundee," Mr Cadzow in " I seek for thee in every flower," the Worrall Sisters in the song and dance " That's my girl," Mr Alf Lawton in " Dig away, Dempsev," and other specialties, and Mr Fre-d Duval. jun., in " Miss Philoepena " were as successful as usual, an excellent programme concluding with an amusing sketch, entitled " The Colonel," in which, the parts were taken by Miss Amy Silvini and Messrs Cadzow and Sivroni.

The Kgmont Post says the railway authorities have decided to lay a line to the mountain for '•tone, but owing to the want of funds it will be some time before the woik can be started.
