A. C. Maclaren (captain). Born at Manchester, December 1, 1871. Is the Lancashire County captain, encT an amateur. One of the most stylish, brilliant, and versatile bats on all wickets >n the world. Is a nephew of Tom Hayward (one ot George Parr's team in 1864). Is a lefthand bowler, slow, with an easy delivery. In some quarters is regarded as the equal or Rhodes on good wickets. Blythe came to the front in 1900. He is only a moderate bat, and never played agamst the Australians in England. Gilbert L. Jessop. Born May 19, 1874. Captain of Gloucestershire, bats and bowls right hand, an amateur, Captained Cambridge 'Varsity in 1899. One of the greatest, if not the greatest, hitters ever known. Described_ as a 'hitting genius — style «nd methods original. His^ best hitting feat performed against Yorkshire last September— 233 runs m two and a-half hours! Bats in a crouch, is smart at getting short runs. A 'fast bowler, and a great field at cover-point. J. T. Tyldesiey. Born November 22, 1873. Is a professional, and piays for Lancashire. One of the best fields in England. Described a3 the best professional batsman who has ever played for Lancashire. This year, in England, Tyldesley scored 3011 runs and made nine centuries.

W. G. Quaife. Born March 17, 1872. A righl-ha«d stonewaller. Piays for Waiwickshire. - Selected in two Test matches in 1899, he averaged 14.66, while in all matches against the Australians that year he made 137 luns in 11 innings (one not out), averaging 13.70. Although making.only 1360 runs (four centuries), Quaife averages 58.66 per innings this year, and heads the professionals •in the average list.

Harold G-. Garnett. Plays for Lancashire, and is an amateur. Bats left-handed in an attractive sfyie, and hits all lound the wicket. Scores very freely. Classed as the most brilliant left-hand bat in England. Played practically one season in first-class cricket. This year he made 1753 runs, and obtained three centtfties.

C. Robson. Born June 20, 1859. The oldest member of Maclaren's team. An amateur, captains Hampshire County, formerly represented Middlesex. Robson is the No. 2 wicketkeeper of the team, and is a fair bat. Aveiage this year 15.75.

Charles M'Gahey. Born February 12, 1871. An Essex amateiir. In English cricket this year proved a run-getter, scoring 1838 runs and notching five centuries. Recently developed as a slow leg-break bowler. Sidney Barnes. Born in Warwickshire 25 years ago. Is 6ft in height. Played but little first-class cricket. For six years has figured in League cricket in Lancashire, and twej or three times for Lancashire County. A strong, well-built man, and an all-round player. Selected as a bowler — medium-paced right hand.
