AUCKLAND, November 30. TLe Takapuna Jockey Club's Spring- meeting was commenced to-day, when the weather was delightfully fine and the attendance satisfactory. A field of eight events was disposed of. The principal race of the day, the St. Andrew's Handicap, fell to Tauhei and Sparkling Water, who ran a dead heat. During the afternoon the sum of £6734 was passed through the totali&ator, fjfte inside fixscjuae jja^iiyj out oil the first
past the post, and the outside machine on the first and second horses. The following are the results : —
Trial Handicap, of 6050v3. One mile.— Golden Rose, 7.7, 1, Lance-corporal, 7.0, 2; Cavalry, 8.1, 3. Also started: Balbirme. Won easily by two lengths. Time, lmin 46sec. Dividends : Inside, £3 15s ; outside, £2 14s. Cambria Handicap, of lOOsovs. Five furlongs.—Mary Seaton, 7.5, 1; Swagsman, 7.10, 2; Seatona, 7.0, 3. Also started: Bastion, Sensation, Irish, Wellcast. Won by a length. Time, lmin 6sec. Dividends: Inside, Maiy Seaton, £1 17s; outside, Mary Seaton, £1 16s 6d, and Swagsman £1 19s.
Handicap Maiden Hurdles, of 70sovs. One mile and a-half. — Chancellor 11, 10.12, 1; Lady Dash, 9.4, 2; Yarra, 9.10, 3. Also started: Royal Conqueror, Sudden, Firefly, Ballinger, Puffing Billy, Peter Simple. Won by four lengths. Time, Bmin 2Jsec. Dividends : Inside, Chancellor 11, £2 18s; outside, Chancellor II £2 4s, and Lady Dash £3 10s.
St. Andrew's Handicap, of 200sovs. One mile and a-quarler— Tauhei 7.6 and Sparkling Water 6.10 (me. 3lb penalty) dead heat; Si. Ursula, 8.4, 2. Also started: St s Olga. St. Olga made most of the running, but faded out ni the home turn, leaving Sparkling >Vater and Tauhei to fight it out. The judge was unable to separate them. St. Ursula, Iwo lengths away, third. Time, 2min 12 3-ssec. Dividends • Inside, Tauhei £1 17s, Sparkling Water £4 3= : outside, Tauhei £1 9s, Sparkling Water £3 13s.
