LYELL, May 26.

Alpine. — The Mine Manager reports:— ln the stop es at the back of No. 9 level a small quantity of Btone of fair quality is still being broken, the reef being from 18in to 3ft in width. Stoping is progressing at the back of No. 10 level on a reef ranging from 9ft to 16ft, but in the north, end, where the reef is largest, it is intermixed with small horses of mullock. Some good stone has been -won from here during the •week. Stoping is also being steadily carried on above No. 12 level, the reef being from 3ft to Bft wide. The No. 11 level has been extended north for a distance of 24ft, making the total length of the extension 256 ft. The reef is broken in the face of the drive, although it appears solid overhead. The quantity of stone sent to the battery is 223 tons. The scraping of top plates yielded 2730z of amalgam from 235 tons of stone.
