OTAGO RUGBY UNION.

the Otago Rugby Union, held on Monday, was attended by.: Messrs Gallaway (president), Wilson, Campbell, Duncan, Harris^ M'Laren, Strong, Young, and Hxitchison.

It was decided that, the only communications that had been received from country clubs on the subject having been unfavourable to the establishment of flag mntches, the proposal for the institution of flag matches in country districts be dropped in the meantime-. The Referee (Mr T. Scurr) in the match Pirates B v. Union B, reporting on tho appeal of the former against the disallowance of a try alleged to have been gained by the former, stated that the Pirates Club had misapprehended his decision, which was that the ball had been held in in-goal. The question being one of fact, the referee's decision was sustained. A letter was read from Mr T. Collier, whom the referee (Mr Bremner) had reported to the committee for rough play in the match Port Chalmers v. Union A, on the 13th May, tendering an apology for his conduct. The committee decided that Collier should be suspended from playing for the rest of the seat-on. The Alhambra Club's claim for a win against the University was referred to the Flag Committee, as was also the question involved in the fact of a member of the Dunedin Club having played last Saturday in both grades. The Flag Committee reported that, in a conference with a committee appointed by the delegates from clubs, it had' been agreed to recommend that the semi-final and final rounds in flag matches be abolished ; that the club in each grade having a majority of points at the end of the season be the winner of. such erade ; and that the grounds for all matches arranged from the 3rd June be re-arranged by the Flag Committee at their discretion. — The agreement entered into between the Flag Committee and the committee of the delegates was confirmed, and the Flag Committee was instructed to give effect to it in the rules, and to re-arrange the matches, notwithstanding the provisions contained in by-law 26. As the outcome of this, there will be no necessity for an adjourned general meeting of the union.
