An tmsnccessful attempt was made by a party- of Americans to cnt the cable in Cruantanamo Bay, the eoufch-eastern extremity of Cuba. »The Americans, flying the Spanish colour* for the purpose of. deceiving the defenders, entered tno bay, but a Spanish gunboat opened iire and compelled them to retire.
Reports from Key West state that the cable from Cienfuegos to Santiago de Cuba, which was cut, has been repaired.
Secor Capote, vice-president of the Cuban Republic, declares that he will not tolerate interference with or control on the part of America in the internal affairs of Cuba.
Tha American War Board expeob that Admiral Oerveras's equadron will play a game cf hide-and-seek until it has been reinforced from Soain.
• The American battleship Oregon put in to Barbadoes, and resailed after obtaining a supply of coal.

' It i? reported In Washington that Senor Castillo, the Spanish Minister at Paris, is arranging with the French Government for the cession to that Power of the Philippines, in order to prevent the grotsp failing iuto the hands of America.
Admiral Sobley's flying squadron has arrived at Santiago de Cabs, where Admiral Sampson's Key West fqaadroß will join him.

Reports from Madrid state that the Spanish authorities have decided to cut the American cables to Cuba if the remaining cable* to Caba are out by America.
