DUNBACK. '
'May 23. — TheVweather, during'. tlie past three ,*9-eeks or 'so* has been like spring— bi ight warm > flays wjth-jtjsta touch of, fi.ost in the mornings and an occasional shower. "Although" 'there has
Been'ecough raio to make grass and turnips grow, there has not been enough to enable ploughing to be done easily. , Ball — The bachelors of X>un' ack intend holding their annual ball on Friday lir.t (27th inst), and expect to have a good turnout, weather permitting. " Tea Meeting.— The annual tea rceeting in connection with the Green Valley portion of what is known as the Dunback-Macraes Presbyterian Church district was held id -the Green Valley schoolhouse on the>l6th inst. There was a very good attendance, the room being quite full. The itev^ James Clarke, of Palmerston. was chairman, and the-Rev. Panton Browu, minister of the parish, was present. After justice -had been ■ done to the good things .in the, (l 3KRy"' of eatables provided by the ladies of the Tist'rict, tte Palmerston Church choir, under the leadership of,Mr'Beveridge, gav.e^a number of solos, quartette's, »nd choruses from the cantata " Under the Palms.." Great praise is due to this choir fur the manner in which the various ittPis were .rendered. Credit is also 'due to them for coming such a distance (about 22 milep) on -a dark nigh 4 at- this time of the year. During the evening some of the school children, under Miss Jessie Ross, sang two pieces. This being, I understand, their first appearance before the public, "their part was veiy creditably performed. Speechifying, considered by a good many to take up_ 'too^much time, was in this instance conspicuous by its absence. The customary votes _of thanks, brought to an end-what was considered by been a very pleasant r meeticg.
