! October 28.— For the last fottnight we have had some extraordinary bad weather throughout the district. All the rivers, have been in high floodj but, fortunately, so far very little damage to mining property or otherwise is reported. The miners have haxla real good time of if-, for sluicing has been carried on vigorously in all parts | of the district, and in many places some of the j claims have been working night and d»y. I j f A party of sluicers on Napoleon's Hill had their ' tail race robbed last week by some rneati scoun- ! drel. This is not the first time- this par- | ticular party have had their tail race interfered with ; Indeed, I am given to understand that this ! is the second time within the last eight or nine months, and it occurred several times previous to i, that. It is to be hoped that some day the mean and heartless robber, whoever he may be, will be caught at his game and handed over to justice and dealt with in accordance with his deserts.

Last week a party of five Chinese who were engaged fishing for whitebait on an island in the Teremakau Itiver were washed out to sea, and so far have not been heard of. This river is situated some mile's south of Greymouth, and,stt flood time rises with wonderful rapidity.— Occasional Correspondent.
