The annual meeting of subscribers to th« v above fund, was held, jit. the .Town-Hall on Fri«
day* Mrs.T. Fergus being in the chair. ' Mrs/tV. D. Stewart (secretary) read the annual report, which stated that it was just 10 years since the establishment of the fund, and each year as it had come and gone had only shown more clearly the great neceesity there was for- such a fuad. By its means many ; hard working and "deserving poor women and ' girls had been enabled to secure two or three weeks' rest and 'a change of air in the country. I During the past year 'over 30 patients had been j sent away. Son)e went to stay with relatives or friends, having their travelling expenses paid ; and others were sent to Mrs Drysdale, at Waitati, .where they were always we'll cared for. Through the untiring energy of the treasurer (Mrs Theomin) the funds had been considerably Rddtd to during the past year, and amongst; those who contributed, a large number had promised annualsubscriptions. The corn* mittee, therefore, hoped to be able to do even more during the ensuing year to belp convalescents than they had done in the past. They had to thank the members of the Garrick " Club for the sum <Jf £12 6i 10J, the proceeds oE two entertainments given by the club ia the Frineets Theatre. The committee decided in all ca°es where it was possible to allow three weeks in the country, instead of two as was formerly the custom. They felt justified ia ' doing this from the increase to their funds. The committee desired to thank all those who bo kindly and generously contributed to the fund during the year, and also his Worship the Mayor' for the We of a room 1 in the Town Hall iv which to hold their mouthly meetings. On the motion of Mrs Morris, seconded by Mrs Ramsay, the report was adopted. The Secretary stated that there was about £70 in the bank.
