THE VICTORIA. CHILDREN'S WARD.
A meeting oF tho committee of the Victoria Children's Ward movement was h«ld at Mr Ha«ti»gs'a office, M«n«e street, on Friday, when there were pre?e»t — Mi-ssrs P. Miller (in the chair), R. Taylor, J. Robin, T. W. Kempthome, A. Lee Smith, P^Stilltng, M. Cohen, the Rev. A. North, Dr Bfown, and Dr Bachelor.
The Chairman stated tuat roughly speaking it wa« thought there would be available for the children* wan) a sum 'of £5100 with the Government subsidy. A cum of £1500 bad been handed over to the, Hospital Tru«ttes some two or three month« ago. This money had b«ea deposited in the bank. Then the trustees applied for the Gov^rnmens subsidy, aod gob £1800, and now the two amounts ware bearing interest. There vras still a sum of £45 to be .got in, and again«t this aura were accounts to tfie amount of £23 "3s 7d. The committee had £840 iv hand.
A ehort discussion took place aa to the advisability of publiehiug an abstract balance sheet, aud it was finally resolved, oa the motion oE Mr Taylor, tbat an abstract balance sheet ba published as coon as the mutter was closed, at a cost not exceeding £10. It -was resolved that the balance be handed over to the'HospiVnl Trustees when the fund ia closed by the executive. -^
The Chairman said he thought that every district had contributed to the fund to agreater or less degree with the exception of Pa'm-frston, which had not given a sbilliog. ' Dc Brown stated that Palmertton sent quite as many patients to the hospital as any othor district.
Toe Chairman said that the trustees intended to proceed with tha work of erecting the -new ward at once. There would be some little function at the layiag of the foundation stone, and also at the opening of the ward, which would take about six or eight months to, build.
