Just for Display.
"You will observe," said the portly passenger,- " that a woman's hat needs straightening very frequently when she wears a diamond ring. Curious, too, tbat as soon as a woman gets a dark skirt lined with gay silk, she discovers that the streets are in such a bad state that they menace every skirt that comes within three inches of them.
"I've noticed that when a women has a silklined skirt *he doesn't rest contented until she takes the worid into her confidence. You can't tell me she wears it merely to satisfy a liking for personal luxury. She wears it for display. Somehow, to me the silk lining smacks of snobbishness and ostentation, but I suppose it's merely imagination on my part." Then he carefully stretched out his arms to bring into full view his diamond sleeve-links. His fellow passengers smiled, and the train sped on.
