OTAGO AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society, held on Saturday morning:, was attended by the President (Mr Janie3 Shiel), Messrs R. Campbell, A. C. Begg, M. Sinclair, 11. V. Fult n, C. P. Keid W. Blackie, A. C. Stronacb, A. W. PiObin, J, "Wright, F. Oldham, W. Cliaitera. A. Todcl, H. M. Driver, James Smith, A. M'Farlane, R. Gawn, J. A. Stewart, J. Duthie, J. Lethbridge, and Hon. T. Fergus. Apologies were sent by Messrs T. Brydoue,. G. H. Gilroy, G. \V. Roberts, J. Gow, and A. Uouclns.

Messrs Wiight, Stepbenson, and Co, wrote offering 15 guineas for competition at the forthcoming s-how, to be divided as follows :— £s 5s for Clydesdale entire colts, £5 5s for Clj desdale fillies, and £5 5s for Clydesdale horsus with three of progeny.— The offer was accepted. The secretary was instructed to acknowledge the letter and thank the donors for their generosity.

A letter was read from his Excellency the Governor's private secretary regretting that, owing to the- sitting of Parliament, his Excellency ■would be unable to be. present at the show. Letters in similar terms were also received from the Premier and the Minister for Lands.

The Secretary of theDepaitmeiit of Aariculture •wrote forwarding copies of a pamphlet issued by the Agricultural department of New South Wales wilh reference to the judging of stock by points.— The pamphlets were referred to the sub-committee appointed to deal with that matter. The judges for the various classes at the forthcoming show were appointed as follows :— Sheep — Merino, Mr John Elliott ; Leicester, Mr A. Murdoch ; Lincoln, Mr D. M'Laren ; Komney, Mr Robt. Cobb ; Downs, Cheviots, and crossbreds, Mr It. Parry. Cattle — Shorthorn, Mr John Sheenan ; Polled Angus, Mr Thos. Blackley ; Ayrshire, Mr W. Kankin : Alderney and daily, Mr James Scott. Horses— Draughts (breeding), Messrs J. Austin and R. Davie ; draughts (working), Messrs G. Marshall and J. Donaldson ; carriage and hackney, Messrs J. S. Rutherford and W. Griffiths Smith ; thoroughbreds, cobs, and ponies, Mr John Stronach ; hunter and leaping, combined judgss. Fat stock— Mr F. W. Gunnell. Pigs— Mr James Oughton. Hams.^bacoD, and dairy produce— Mr James Gray and Mr W. Sutton. The tender of S. Lean for the luncheon and refreshment privileges was accepted. The Hon. T. Fergus brought up the question of the advisability of the society takiDg part in the celebration of the Jubilee of the province, and on his motion it was unanimously resolved— " That this committee co-operate with other bodies and committees in celebrating the Jubilee of Otago in ft fitting aud appropriate manner." The Grounds Committee were authorised to remove the present fence back to its Oiitfinal position and to have a secretary's office in the pioduce shed.
