ROXBURGH GOLD STEAM DREDGING COMPANY.

The adjourned annual meeting of the Roxburgh Gold Steam DredgiDg Company was held at Roxburgh on Monday evening ; Mr T. Coop in tho ctWir. After an explanation from the chairman to Messrs Brownlie and Leijon rt the matter of the dredge being shifted from the company's claim to M'Kenzie's Beach, the directors' report and balance sheet were adopted on the motion of Messrs Coop and Raines. The- Secretary reported that at the Bight of meeting the liabilities were £241' 9s lid, and the assets £52 19a lid. The directors in their report made tha .following proposal :— That the shareholder* should contribute, say, at the rate, of Is per share per month, not to exceed 5a per share in, all,- in order to pay off the present "debt, with the view'of working, the Hercules Beach, where rich ground wai left. by. Hercules Company. • The only alternative X was liquidation. , Owing to the quantity of tailings and stones, the dredge could not work the ground. Before dealing- with- the .above proposal, .Mr Browclie was elected a director vice Mr Burton (retired), and Mr Haines was re-elected auditor. A lengthy discussion then followed aaenf the directors' proposal. Mr Brownlie stated that it would cost from £800 to £1000 to repair th« dredge and erect a tailings ele'yator. Eveatually, oh the motion of Messrs Haines and Brgwnlie, it was decided to adjourn the me»jtirfg till Wednesday, November 17, at 8 p.m., at Woods s Hotel, Dunedin. The question will then be fully discussed and a course of action decided on.

A general holiday was observed in town on Tuesday on the occasion of tho fifty-sixth, birthday of the Prince of Wales. The weather was fine though dull until late in the afternoon, when heavy rain fell, bub this soon passed .arcaj, and the weather was generally clear for the evening. The principal attractions during the day were the Taieri races at Mosgiel and the volunteer sham fight, while excursions down the harbour were run by tbe Invercargill and Onslow, and a good many private picnics were held, the traffic on the tramways being very heavy. Both places of amusement that were open in the evening were well patronised.

There was a considerable amount of traffic on Tuesday on the Iccsl section of the railwajg. The early train to Oam&ra took aw>y 250 passengers, the 9.5 ■ a.m. speoial for Palmerston carried 200, the 10 a.m. train for Port Chalmers, 350 (including over 200 for St. Leonards), and', the 'north express 300. Oa the south line there were 450 passengers by the express, and 1000 by the race trains for the Taieri. All the local trains were—for the Prince of Wales'fl Birth* day— exceptionally hear;.
