A FASHIONABLE WEDDING IN SYDNEY.

MARRIAGE OF MR EMII, HALLBNSTEIN, OF DDNEDIN, AT bYDNET. I overlooked (writes a Sydney correspondent) ; forwarding you an account of tbiu interesting event by last steamer. Mr B. Hallenstein (a member of the firm of H&llenatein Bros, and Co.), the nephew of your well-known citizen, Mr 18. Halleustoin, whs married at Sydney ou the 9Lh of December to Mins Rosie Gotthelf, a -daughter of Mr Moritz Gotthelf, one of our ! most respected merchants. The ceremony ' *ook. place at the Great Synagogue, which was | beautifully decorated with ferns and flower?, and was packed to overflowing. After a very i interesting marriage ceremony by the Rev. A. . B. Daviei, a reception took place at Mr aud | Mrs Goithelf's residence, whore upwards of 120 guests rfsßembled ia the drawing room, ou the balcony, and upon the lawn. Before the youug people started on their wedding trip Mr I B. Hallenstein proposed .the health of the bride | and bridegroom, and' as I know that his speech has already attraoted to your shores several Australian visitor* it may be of public interest, and J. therefore do nojb hesitate to give it as 1 near an po&aible verbatim. Mr Hallenstein s&id : Ladies and gentlemen,*—l have been requested to propose the health and happiness of the bride and bridegroom. I have not often been called upon to take this duty upon myself. lam only sorry my brother and his vri'e, who live in London, cannot be present on this occasion. As it ie, my wife and I are their humble representatives. We have orossed the sea which lies between here and New Zealand to give our nephew to tbe daughter of our old and esteemed friend?, Mr and Mrs Gotthelf. The' bride .has been known to me during my periodical visits ' to Sydney in all stage6 — fronr a crying baby to tho schoolgirl, to the youug lady who first puts up hrr hair, and under to-day's f avourablo circumstances (best stage of all) -to that of the blushing bride who now stands before tin. and who believes that her young man, who i» all the world to her, is perfection. Ido not go as far as that, but this muoh I will say/ thai; it is the lot of few girls to obtain a husband snch as she has obtained this day. Our nephew has been known to us from boyhood, nnd for a good many years he has been living under our own roof. My wife and I regard him as a son, my children as % brother, aud I am sure my cousins in Dunedin look upon him. with equal affection. We are pleased that he has chosen as his wife such a good girl as Rosie, and we all fervently hope that the Almighty will bless their union, and that the iaipreEsive words spoken afc the marriage ceremony will / sink deep into their hearts. My nephew has taken his bride from a house where she has been very happy, and we ail hope that happiness will follow her to her mountain borne in Dunedin. The native bush of New Zealand — more beautiful than the orange groves of Australia — is at her very door, every morning she will be called to her daily labour by the warbling of birds, which abound in the woods surrounding her house. It will b» gratifying for her father and mother to know that we and all her Dunedin friends live close by, they will feel that their daughter is no stranger in a strange land. As communication between New Zealand and Australia every year is getting more rapid and more comfortable we may look forward t« periodical viiits of friends from one country to the other. And let me assure you, ladies and gentlemen, of all the countries in the world, many of which we have visited, there is none more beautiful than New Zealand. Even your own beautiful surroundings are equalled by scenery in New Zealand. What Switzerland and Norway are la Europe New Zealand is fast becoming in Australia. And now that one of your bright stars is being transferred to out shores, leb me say that tbe friends attracted thereby shall ever be welcome. I will noh transgress any longer on the time of the newly-* 1 married couple, who will shortly atarb on thejg

boneymcon trip. Before settling in New Zealand my nephew intends introducing his wife to his parents in Europe, who, I am iiure, will welcome her as their danghter. And now ladiei And gentlemen will you join me in wiahiog the bride and bridegroom a pleasant trip and health and happiness through life. The newly-married couple have, since their return from the Blue Mountains, left by the Ville de la Ciotat for Europe, and on theii return will take up their permanent abode in Dunedin, where Mr E. Hallensteiu has bought the beautifully-situated residence of Sir Robert Btout in London street.
