Melbourne, October 11. E.K. and Mahee have been scratched for the Caulfield Cup. £5000 to £250 has been taken about Valu el for the Melbourne Cup, and 100 to 6 is now tho best offer.

At Flemingbon this afternoon a couple of Mr S. Hordern's Maribyrnong: Plate candidates — Collarette and Catapult — had a spin over the distance, the former, who is a beautiful mover, having all the best of the go. In the rooms to-day D'vision was wall backed for the Caulfield Cup at 100 to 12, which is now the best cft-.r against him. ICOO bo 100 was taken about Brockieigh, 3000 to 210 Jeweller, 1000 to 10 J.S., and 500 to 5 Somniloquisb.

£500 to £75 was taken about Patron for the Derby, for which event Pulvill is a shade better favourite than Garc,'on. All the money in the market at 100 to 5 a;ainst S'ernehaser for the Melbourne Cup has been exhausted.

Mirridong did a clinking five furlongs this morning, and Vakeel covered a mile in lmin

48£ sec. Harfcington had a nine-furlong spin, which he covered in 2min 2sec. Jeweller cut a most inglorious figure when asked to do five furlongs, taking no less than lmin lOsec over it. He evidently disliked the lefb-handed sbyle of going. Realm and Cannon did a rattling mile and a-half working gallop

The Derby betting underwent some change last night, 100 to 12 being offered on the field. Mystery defeated Osterly at Richmond yesterday, making the two-mile trotting record 4min 56£ sec. The Duke of York with 8 0 up to-day won the Two-year-old Handicap at Maribyrnong in 49£3ec. At Caulfield this morning, Forward traversed half a mile in 51^sec. Oxide had the best of Brockleigh over a mile and a quarter, which was wound up in 2min 19sec. Enuc is pcratched for the Melbourne Cup.

Sternchaser was again an absentee from the track at Caulfield this morning, but the reason is not known by the public

October 13. Port Admiral covered a mile this morning in lmin 48sec

Carbonate (with 6 12 up) easily put down Donation (with 8 8) in the Bohemian Handicap, one mile and three-quarters, at Maribyrnong yesterday. Fulham, Rternchaser, and J5 are reported to be lame The first-named has receded to 100 to 4 (offered). For the Caulfield Cup, Division is firm at 100 to 12 and Brockleigh and the Jeweller ab 100 to 8. £1000 to £75 has been taken about Brockleigh. Oxide has been well backed down to 100 to 6. The owner of Donation took 1000 to 40 about him.

Moscow, with 7.4, put down Donation (8 12) in %he Mordialloc Handicap, one mile and aquarter, yesterday.

One thousand to 80 was taken about Jeweller for the Caulfield Cup, 500 to 15 Fulham, 1000 to 22£ HartiDgton, 1500 to 30 Moss Rose, 1000 to 65 Moscow, and 2500 to 125 Oxide.

Sternchaser is at 100 to 3 for the Melbourne Cup.

In consequence of the heavy rainfall the first day of the Caulfield meeting is postponed till Wednesday.

Lasb night Vakeel was heavily backed for the Melbourne Cup down to 100 to 7. At the same time Malvolio advanced to 100 to 6.

Light Artillery has now thoroughly recovered from his recent ailment, and is putting in good work.

The high-priced gelding Titan, who was a sensational two-> ear-old, has arrived at Caulfield, and looks vastly improved.

Rpgina skipped over four furlongs at Flemington yesterday inside of 50*ec.

Little Bernie has been scratched for the Caulfield Cap.

Mr Hall, owner of Oxide, denies that he is accepting any wagers about him for the Caulfield Cup. He expresses doubts whether the horse is legitimately backed, and suggests it is only a bookmaking ruse to bring him into the market. All There is stoutly supported at 100 to 3 and 100 to 4 ; 500 to 15 has been taken about Newton, and 500 to 10 about Strahan and Cressy.

Scrip, Halifax, Carrington, Pounamu, and Bessie Macarthy are scratched for the Caulfield Cup.

The following wagers were taken to-day ;—; — 1000 to 40 agst Fulham, 1000 to 25 Donation, 1000 to 60 All There.

500 to 75 was accepted about Patron for the Derby, and 200 to 12 aboub Pounamu.

This morning Os^erley beat Mystery by six lengbhs in three miles, the time being 7min

Newman has been backed to win £8000 on the Caulfield Cup down to 100 to 8 After 1000 to 100 had been taken about Jeweller, 100 to 11 was the be«t offer obtainable, whilst Division receded, 1500 to 120 being laid agaiusb him.

Owing to an excellent gallop during the morning, 2000 to 300 was taken about Pulvil for the Derby, an offer to accept 6 to 1 in thousands meeting with no response ; 5 to 1 is now the best offer against him Garcjon has been supported to win £1500 at 100 to 14-.

Sternchaser is recovering his position, 100 to 5 being the best offer against him.

There are 31 acceptors for the Caulfield Cup, the list being as follows :—: —

Strahan was backed tc-day to win £5000 down to 100 to 5 Oxide was supported to about the same extent down to 100 to 8.

Pounimu did a good mile at Caulfield this morning. Sbernchassr had a long spell of medium work, and appeared perfectly sound.
