Mataura Electorate. TO THE EDITOE.
Sir,— The speech delivered by Mr Robert M'Nab has surprised many people, as it was not supposed that he intended to bid for the vote of the rabble. He is prepared to go one better than the most advanced Socialists and the farmerß had better look out. Why Mr M'Nab should have made such a speech it is difficult to understand, as it is full of such platitudes as might be expected from a Communist. What the electors require is a moderate and fairminded politician, who will conserve the rights of all classes. There arc too m it.y holding Mr M'Nab's opinions in public life already, and the present member, Mr Richardson, is the sort of man who is wanted for a district such as tfci-4. He is clear-headed and safe, and holJs sound opinions on moat public questions and especially on the land question He has never angled for the mob vote, and the settlers as well as others, feel safe in his hands. I hope that none will pledge themselves until Mr Richardson appears on the s:ene — I am &» October 13. Colonist.'
