OTAGO AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting of committee of the Obago Agricultural ?nd Pastoral Society was held in the secretary's office at noon on Saturday, and attended by Messrs W. Patrick (president, in the chair), T. Brydone, W. C. Smith, R. Charters, W. H. Taggart, R. Gawn, J. W. Wright, W. D. Sutherland, J. Duthie, A. M'Farlane, J. Allen, C. S. Reid, R. Campbell, and S. James.

The correspondence included a letter from Mr J. J. Ramsay suggesting a conference of mining and farming representatives to be held in some central place in Otago. — It was resolved that thi9 society not being a political body declines to take any part in the proposed conference, and that the secretary reply accordingly- m The Programme Committee suggested adding two classes for collie dogs at the forthcoming show, strong recommendations having been made to that effect by several owners. — It was decided to have one class for rough collie dog or bitch, and one class for smooth collie dog or bitch ; also an extra class in draught horses, to compete for prize given by Dunedin Coal Merchants' Association.

The Grounds Committee reported the building, stalls, sheds, and ground in perfect order, and that the trees planted on Arbor Day had successfully taken root, and were looking well.

The Artificial Manure Committee reported that they have forwarded to 13 farmers between Oamaru and Waiwera eight different kinds of manures for testing the growth of turnips, and the thanks of this society are due to Messrs Nimmo and Blair, who supplied the turnip seed gratuitously. Mr W. C. Smith (hon. treasurer) reported that the annual horse parade had turned out financially successful, and that the subscriptions received up to date had been very satisfactory ; but, as the society had decided on holding a winter show in June and had spent over £60 in repairs and in improving Tahuna Park, it was necessary that a thorough canvass of the city be made. It is satisfactory to nobe that farmers are taking more interest in the metropolitan shows, reports from country members being very gratifying.

The nominating and appointing of judges for the annual November show was then proceeded with.
