NOTES BY AMATEUR.
The Taieri Cycling Club was most unfortunate in regard to the weather on Saturday. At 2 o'clock, when those who intended making the trip to Mosgiel were getting ready to leave town, the rain came down in torrents and prevented a number of competitors even from going outThe results will be found under the heading of Cycling. A meeting of the N.Z.A.A.A. was held last week. W. M. West's pole jump of 10ft 2in at the C.A.A.C. sports in October last was passed as a record. It was decided to send a representative to look after arrangements in connection with the championships to be held at Wellington on February 11, his expenses to be a charge on the meeting. J. H. Hempton wrote applying for a refund of his travelling expenses to Ireland while he was on tour with the New Zealand athletic team. He pointed out that had he stayed in London or gone to Paris, as he was enMtled to have done, the association would have had to pay £9 or £10 for his expenses. It was decided, after discussion, to pay Mr Hempton £5, the amount which would have been spent in paying his expenses had he remained in London. An application for reinstatement fiom Mr F. A. Piper, Wanganui, was granted. Mr J. E. Roe, Wellington, was recommended to apply again next November. The following have been selected to represent the C.A.A.
